Hi friends,
my name is Gabriel Honnert, 45 years old from Luxembourg, I ride and collect small Honda's since the age of 16. Usually I contribute to english forums but I have a question concerning my SS50Z K1 from 1971.
The carburator side of the intake silencer get's hard as a rock of time, due to the exposure to fuel, I suppose.
Is there a way to soften it again? Heat? Chemicals?
Or is there another popular solution with a bend tube and a K&N filter attached to it?
I wanth to keep the original appaerance with the filter inside the frame.
Sorry to write in english but I do not master the netherland's. I use the google translator.
English, german, french and luxemburgish is no problem.

Re: Airfilter for S50
The easiest way is to steal your wife's hairdryer to heat it a little, then it should come off easily.
Other SS50 owners sometimes use a bend tube with a "powerfilter", also have heard of people using old dustcovers for the front springs to connect the powerfilter.

Re: Airfilter for S50
Maybe you can put it into hot water (almost boiled)

Or buy a new one (Ebay, webshops)

Re: Airfilter for S50
Depends on if the airfilter is mounted on the bike or not
would be fun boiling your honda SS50 completely. LOL

The one you can still buy today isn't original from a ss50. But from a new honda Benly(cd/cl50)roow schreef:Maybe you can put it into hot water (almost boiled)

It fits on your SS50, and is the best alternative, when you want to have a new filter piece.

Wynn's car oil substitute has a solution to mix in engine oil to make the oil seals to soften. You can use this to soak de intake and it will soften.

Re: Airfilter for S50
The new benly filters don't really fit, I took it out again when I tried to mount my carb to it.
The Benly has its carb in a much more horizontal position than the SS50
SS50 carb \| benly airfilter
doesn't fit nicely

You could just use a cheap-ass powerfilter with a long tube.. Then it fits snugly in your frame, i use this too because the original filter takes up too much space.
Works beautifully in all conditions.

Re: Airfilter for S50
I've got an cheap-ass filter too. It used to be a Vespa powerfilter with long tube. But it fits perfectly in the frame. The only disadventage is that it makes a loud slurping sound.
Good Luck , Lejon.

Don't use a power filter. You don't want to be a chicken painter.Kippenverver schreef:You could just use a cheap-ass powerfilter with a long tube.. Then it fits snugly in your frame, i use this too because the original filter takes up too much space.
